Below Deck Insulation and Cool Roofs — What’s To Go Wrong
For most of us in the low slope roofing industry, it’s considered to be absolutely standard to have insulation placed above the roof deck. For standard steel deck construction, this approach has many advantages, such as: The dew point is typically within the insulation layer, lowering condensation risks.
Decking Over a Roof - Chief Architect
Whenever I install decking over a roof, I make sure the framing is structurally sound and properly pitched to drain water. The project illustrated here was a com- plete teardown and rebuild, so I framed the roof with 2x8s spaced on 16-in. centers, supported by a beam and a ledger as on most decks. Because these 2x8s were also
How to Retrofit a Roof with Insulation - GreenBuildingAdvisor
4. Make a grid frame work of 2" dimensional to make space for the insulation. 5. Fill this space completely with insulation. (I like rock all because of its higher R value, fire, and moisture resistance and good cost per R value.) 6. install roofing over a wind barrier like spun olefin. ( this could be metal, or roof sheathing and shingles)
Deck over a pitched roof? - Houzz
Does anyone know the feasibility of, or have experience with, building a deck on top of a pitched roof? We want to build a deck off of the second floor - of a very old home - and we really don't have many options given the layout. The best is to build on top of a section that juts out from the first floor but has a normal pitched roof.
Technical Guidance on Pitched Roof Insulation
If making a warm pitched roof construction, you should opt for some type of rigid insulation boards such as Kingspan K7 pitched roof board orCelotex XR4000 PIR insulation boards, which can be installed both between and over the rafters and offers a level of fire resistance, if important and applicable. Please note that these boards require a
Determining Roof Pitch and Pitch Factor for Ordering
This building’s roof has an 8/12 pitch. Notice the fraction is converted to express the run in a unit of 12. Once the pitch is determined we use the chart to find the pitch factor. The pitch factor is the amount the square footage (width x length) needs to be multiplied by to take into account for the roof pitch.
Commercial Roofing Insulation | Firestone Building Products
What is polyiso? Polyisocyanurate thermal insulation, also referred to as polyiso, PIR, or ISO, is a popular low slope commercial building roof insulation. It is a thermoset, closed-cell foam that is an optimal insulation solution for low slope roofs. It can also be used as a roofing cover board and in building envelope applications.
